A non-profit, established and run by volunteers, whose purpose is to resettle refugees and other displaced persons by providing them with the necessities to start a new life in New London, CT.

Since 2016, Start Fresh has welcomed 8 refugee families (for a total of 37 individuals) to New London —  3 from Syria, 2 from Sudan, 2 from Afghanistan, and 1 from Honduras. While co-sponsoring these families with Integrated Refugee and Immigrant Services (IRIS) of New Haven, CT, local Start Fresh volunteers have rented and furnished apartments, provided rides around town, and assisted families with food shopping. In addition, volunteers have provided a vast array of services to families from accessing social services, obtaining health and dental care, enrolling in English Language classes at Adult Education, registering children for schools and camps, to assisting with state ID’s and driver’s licenses, finding employment, and acculturating to the US.
